iPhone Screenshot Sizes for 2026

Getting your iPhone screenshot dimensions right is fundamental to App Store submission. Apple requires specific pixel dimensions for different display sizes, and submitting incorrectly sized assets will result in rejection. Here's what you need for the iPhone lineup in 2026.

The iPhone 16 Pro Max with its 6.9-inch display requires screenshots at 1320 by 2868 pixels. This is the largest iPhone screenshot size and is required for new app submissions. The standard 6.7-inch display size (iPhone 16 Plus and others) requires 1290 by 2796 pixels—also mandatory. The 6.5-inch display class uses 1284 by 2778 pixels; this size is optional if you provide the larger sizes. The legacy 5.5-inch display (iPhone 8 Plus class) still requires 1242 by 2208 pixels for compatibility with older devices.

Apple's system is designed to scale down from larger sizes, so prioritizing your largest screenshots ensures good coverage across devices. However, simply scaling screenshots can sometimes result in text that's too small to read on smaller devices. Consider reviewing how your screenshots appear at each size and making adjustments if critical information becomes illegible.

iPad Screenshot Dimensions

If your app supports iPad, you'll need iPad-specific screenshots. The sizes have expanded with the introduction of new iPad Pro models. The 13-inch iPad Pro with M4 chip requires 2064 by 2752 pixels. The 12.9-inch iPad Pro (earlier generations) uses 2048 by 2732 pixels. The 10.5-inch display class (iPad Air and some iPad Pro models) requires 1668 by 2224 pixels.

For iPad screenshots, consider whether your app's iPad experience is significantly different from iPhone. If it is, create iPad-specific screenshot designs that showcase the tablet-optimized layout. If your app is identical on both platforms, you can often adapt your iPhone screenshot designs for iPad dimensions, though you'll want to ensure they still look compelling at the larger size.

Apple allows up to 10 screenshots per device size. While you don't need to use all 10 slots, using more screenshots gives you additional opportunities to communicate features and benefits. However, quality matters more than quantity—five excellent screenshots beat ten mediocre ones.

Technical Requirements and Format Specifications

Beyond pixel dimensions, Apple has specific technical requirements for screenshot files. Screenshots must be in PNG or JPEG format with RGB color space. Transparency (alpha channels) is not allowed and will cause rejection—flatten your images if your design software exports with transparency. The minimum resolution is 72 DPI, though higher resolution doesn't hurt and is standard from most design tools.

Each screenshot must be exactly the required dimensions—no more, no less. Unlike some platforms that accept ranges, Apple requires precise pixel counts. If your screenshot is off by even one pixel, it will be rejected. Double-check export settings in your design software to ensure accuracy.

File size matters for upload speed and processing, but Apple handles large files reasonably well. More important is visual optimization—ensure your screenshots look sharp without artifacts from excessive JPEG compression. When in doubt, use PNG for screenshots with text and sharp UI elements; JPEG can work for screenshots with large photographic areas where minor compression artifacts are less noticeable.
